In these challenging times, especially for a musician, it can be good thing to look back in the past. In which you can find the essence for the future.

With my new composition "Shlof mayn kind" I go back to the 1900's when Jews migrated from Europe to the US. Shlof mayn kind is based on a traditional Yiddish song with lyrics of Sholem Aleichem, in which a mother not only comforts her child, but also comforts herself. The song is part of the Ruth Rubin Archive.
I love the melody and the text, since for me it’s a testimony of women power, against all odds.

In this composition for 6-part a capella female choir with soloist, I have taken quotes from another traditional Yiddish lullaby, as well as from medieval choral singing, which evolves into a modern choral style as the text becomes more dramatic.

I recorded this song corona proof, since I sing all the parts of the choir (form low alto to soprano) and of course the soloist part.

It's a song about hope, strength and believing in life and a good outcome.
Something we can all use in this time.
